Denver weather: Ample sunshine and calm skies Wednesday, but a change is coming soon
A calm but very warm day Wednesday across metro Denver is forecast ahead of a cold front and possible rain showers going into the weekend.
Denver residents can expect sunny skies, with a high near 95, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South winds between 5 to 10 mph become east blowing in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

Tonight it’ll be mostly clear, with a low around 65. East southeast winds between 7 to 10 mph become south southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
Thursday’s high temperature could tie or even break the record for the day’s date as the mercury continues to work north toward 100 degrees.
A cold front pushes through on Friday and temperatures drop back into the 80s, then into the 70s heading into the weekend and next week.
Rain and thunderstorm chances return as well each day for between 6-7 days during the last full week of August.

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Light and variable wind becoming east northeast 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.
Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. West wind 6 to 10 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday: A slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Sunday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.
