Denver weather: Double dose of monsoonal rain forecast for Tuesday

An unsettled weather pattern continues to bring rain to Denver on Tuesday via monsoonal flow, however, the metro area might get a double dose of precipitation today; once in the afternoon, then again in the late evening.
Denverites can expect a slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. It’ll be mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tonight, showers are likely with a possible thunderstorm before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Rain totals around west-metro Denver are beginning to add up a little.
The RAWS weather station atop Lookout Mountain in Golden has measured 0.52 inches of rain over the last 72 hours, the RAWS station at Sugarloaf in Boulder has recorded 0.68 inches of rain and the CWOP station in Englewood has recorded 0.82 inches of rain.
Continued rains will bring precipitation through the end of the week, with the best chances for showers on Wednesday and Thursday.
A drying out period starts heading into Labor Day weekend, with only a slight chance of afternoon rain but warmer temperatures back into the 80s.

Wednesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Light and variable wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Thursday: A chance of showers before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 79.
