Mud-covered suspect in Speedo reportedly fled from police at Colorado hot spring resort
An investigation into potential credit card fraud took the Idaho Springs Police Department to a local hot spring resort on August 26, with a bizarre chain of events soon to follow.
According to a report on the matter, an Idaho Springs police officer and a Clear Creek County sheriff’s deputy arrived at Indian Hot Springs on Tuesday to conduct a follow-up investigation related to alleged credit card fraud. The suspect they were working to track down was a 33-year-old from Aurora, with authorities able to make contact with the suspect as he was exiting a mud bath at the resort. At the time he emerged, he was covered in mud and wearing only a swimsuit – later described as a black Speedo-style piece.
Police say that the suspect failed to cooperate, ultimately fleeing from law enforcement and running up the side of a mountain on the eastern side of the resort, presumably Santa Fe Mountain.
Following the suspect’s alleged escape, law enforcement “saturated the area,” utilizing boots on the ground and a drone for aerial support. The suspect was eventually found near Montane Drive and Divide View Drive, reportedly still covered in mud.
According to law enforcement, the suspect attempted to hide in a shed, but was captured and taken into custody.
The suspect now faces charges of assault on a peace officer, burglary, obstruction, and resisting arrest. The original case related to credit card fraud is still under investigation.
All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and all charges are merely accusations.
