Broncos’ Sean Payton mum on LB Dre Greenlaw sitting out practice due to quad injury
ENGLEWOOD – Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw sat out practice Wednesday due to his ongoing quad issue.
Greenlaw suffered a quad injury in practice July 31 and did not play in any of Denver’s three preseason games. He only did work Wednesday at Broncos Park on a side field.
With the Broncos opening the regular season Sunday against Tennessee, they were required to put out their first injury report of 2025. Greenlaw was designated a non-participant with the quad injury.
“At this point forward, I’m not going to talk one thing about player injuries,’’ Broncos coach Sean Payton said when asked about Greenlaw before the injury report came out. “We’ll report what we’re required to report. But you’ll never hear me talk about how I feel it’s going or anything of that. Really, there’s no advantage for me to discuss (injuries).”
Greenlaw was signed as a free agent last March after playing the past six seasons with San Francisco. He has had a number of injuries in recent years, starting with suffering a torn Achilles in Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024. He returned to play in two games last December before missing the final two games of the season with a calf injury. He sat out all of spring drills this year after suffering a different type of quad injury while working out.
Also listed as not participating Wednesday was tight end Nate Adkins, who recently had ankle surgery and was working on a side field. He is not expected to play against the Titans. Also working on the side field was safety Reese Taylor, a cornerback on the practice squad who suffered a hamstring injury.
Listed as full participants in practice were outside linebacker Nik Bonitto (foot), linebacker Alex Singleton (thumb) and wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. (thigh). Mims had been described as having suffered a groin injury in an Aug. 27 practice.
