Denver weather: Mid 80s on Wednesday as the city comes out of the 3rd wettest August

A calm and sunny Wednesday is forecast around metro Denver, with high temperatures in the mid 80s. Plus, August’s weather summary shows three new daily precipitation records were broken.

Denverites can expect sunny skies today, with a high near 85, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South southwest winds between 6 to 11 mph become north northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.

Tonight it’ll be mostly clear, with a low around 59. Northeast winds between 6 to 8 mph become south southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 17 mph.

Denver’s weather in August claimed a few notable records, one being the third wettest August on record.

Official rainfall at Denver (measured at DIA) was 4.12 inches, which was 2.54 inches above normal, however, most of the Denver metro area had below normal rainfall, with Denver Central Park receiving 0.63 inches of rain while Centennial Airport only had 0.40 inches of rain.

Three daily precipitation records were observed in August, those being on the 10th (1.43”), 26th (1.38”) and 29th (0.69”).

Thursday will be the hottest day of the week as highs close in on 90 degrees.

Better chances for showers return starting Friday, lasting into through the weekend, with possible afternoon showers each day.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 89. South southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 17 mph.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. East wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 17 mph.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 81.
