Lauren Boebert joins ‘in fighting to reverse’ Space Command HQ move

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) joined every member of the Colorado congressional delegation to decry President Donald Trump’s announcement that he plans to move Space Command’s headquarters out of Colorado.

“Today’s decision to move U.S. Space Command’s headquarters out of Colorado and to Alabama will directly harm our state and the nation,” the delegation wrote in a statement.

“We are united in fighting to reverse this decision,” the statement continued. “Moving Space Command sets our space defense apparatus back years, wastes billions of taxpayer dollars, and hands the advantage to the converging threats of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.”

The delegation, which includes two Republican representatives, cited a 2023 report from the Department of Defense’s inspector general. At the time, former President Joe Biden opted to keep the headquarters at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs.

According to the report, “constructing temporary operational facilities and re‑establishing secure, mission‑critical networks at RSA would take 3 to 4 years following a final basing decision.”

A senior administration official told the Washington Examiner at the time of Biden’s decision that a new site in Alabama would not open until “the early to mid-2030s.”

These lawmakers also pointed to the booming aerospace industry that came with the Space Command headquarters. The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade reported that over 2,000 aerospace businesses employed more than 55,000 people.

“Those people will not simply move with the Command at the military’s whim. Many of them will leave the industry altogether, creating a disruption in the workforce that will take our national defense systems decades to recreate,” the statement said.

“Moving Space Command would not result in any additional operational capabilities than what we have up and running in Colorado Springs now,” the statement continued.

TRUMP SAYS COLORADO’S MAIL-IN VOTING SYSTEM ‘A BIG FACTOR’ IN DECISION TO MOVE SPACE COMMAND TO ALABAMA

Boebert has been a long-time ally of Trump, earning his endorsement ahead of the 2026 elections. Last year, Boebert hosted a fundraising event with Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House for comment.
