Denver weather: Hazy skies possible Thursday along with warm temperatures

Wildfire smoke is forecast to drift into the Front Range and Denver on Thursday along with very warm temperatures pushing toward 90 degrees.
Denver residents can expect mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 88, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South southwest winds between 5 to 9 mph become light and variable later. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

Tonight there’s c slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 4 a.m. Widespread smoke between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., will be possible too.
Smoke from distant fires will move into northern Colorado today. This loop shows the plume aloft. Surface smoke will be worst in northeast Colorado this afternoon and in Denver this evening, along a cold front.

It’ll be mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. North northeast winds between 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Slightly higher chances for afternoon rain are possible on Friday, however, the high temperatures around the metro area will be noticeably cooler as a cold front pushes through.
Late-summer like weather returns for the weekend, with highs back into the upper 70s, but a stray shower can’t be ruled out around kickoff for the Denver Broncos vs. Tennessee Titans football game at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday.
Next week the sunshine and dry conditions return fully as high temperatures bounce back into the 80s.

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. East wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 80.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
