A motorcycle rider died after crashing into another vehicle in what Aurora authorities suspect to be a racing-related crash on Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the crash around 10 p.m. near the 19500 block of E. 38th Ave., according to a Aurora Police Department news release.

Authorities said the crash involved two motorcycles allegedly racing each other along eastbound 38th Avenue. At the time, a Kia Seltos SUV attempted an illegal U-turn before one of the motorcycles crashed into the SUV, tossing the rider, according to witnesses who spoke with Aurora police.

Police said officers arrived at the scene to find the motorcycle, a man, dead on-scene.

Further investigation revealed the second motorcycle nearly missed colliding with the vehicle. The rider of that motorcycle momentarily returned to the scene, but then sped away, according to police.

The investigation into what led to the crash remains ongoing.
