Here are 6 Coloradans who were honored by the Emmys this year

Although Colorado might not be the first state you think of when it comes to entertainment performance awards, the state has produced plenty of stars throughout the years – including one who broke an Emmy record this year.

Here’s a list of Colorado Emmy award winners and nominees this year:

1. Bowen Yang

Yang was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” for the fourth time this year, for his work on Saturday Night Live. This nomination broke the record for the most-nominated male Asian performer in Emmys history, according to Variety. Yang was also nominated for “Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series” in 2019, making his nomination this year his fifth overall.

Yang moved to Aurora with his family when he was nine years old. He eventually made his way to be a cast member of one of the most famous comedy shows in the world, Saturday Night Live.

2. Steve Staeger

Staeger was nominated for a Heartland Emmy in the categories of Journalistic Enterprise – Individual, and won a Heartland Emmy in the category of Continuing Covergae for his work with KUSA in Denver.

3. Joseph Large

Joseph Large, a filmmaker and photographer based in Summit County, was nominated with his fellow filmmakers for “Our Living World,” for Outstanding Nature Documentary and Outstanding Cinematography in the 46th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards. The awards ceremony happened earlier this year on June 26. Large has most recently worked on Netflix’s “Trainwreck: Balloon Boy,” which premiered on the streaming platform on July 15.

4. Marshall Zelinger

Zelinger won a Heartland Emmy in the category of Continuing Coverage, and was nominated in the category of Evening Newscast. Zelinger works as an investigative and political reporter at 9NEWS.

5. Kyle Clark

9NEWS’s Kyle Clark was nominated for a Heartland Emmy in the categories of community service, evening newscast, breaking news – single report, team coverage, business/consumer/politics/government – long form content, writer – news, and won in the categories of program host/moderator/correspondent, anchor – news, and continuing coverage.

6. The Holly

The director of this documentary, Julian Rubinstein, is a resident of Denver. The Holly won Outstanding Regional Documentary at the 46th News and Documentary Emmy Awards which took place earlier this year.
