1 injured in shooting near Colorado Springs Amazon center

One person is in surgery after a shooting early Friday morning near the Colorado Springs Amazon Distribution Center, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 5 a.m. around Grinnell and South Powers boulevards near the Colorado Springs Airport, Colorado Springs Police Department Sergeant M. Freeman said.

Southbound Grinnell Boulevard near Powers was closed for several hours before reopening at 8:15 a.m., police reported in an online blotter entry.

The shooting followed a physical fight that broke out in the parking lot of the Amazon facility, the blotter entry stated. As people were leaving, shots were fired into a vehicle near the intersection of Powers and Grinnell boulevards, injuring the driver.

The driver managed to get themselves to a nearby hospital.

“Officers and detectives are working to identify all the people involved,” the blotter entry stated.
