Colorado runners set to tackle 50K while consuming 1,000s of calories of Taco Bell

Have a hankering to run more than 30 miles while consuming copious amounts of fast food? The 8th edition of the International Taco Bell 50k Ultramarathon might be for you.
On October 4, Denver runners will embark on a 30.9-mile route that includes stopping at 10 Taco Bells along the way. Participants must eat at least one item at nine of the 10 Taco Bells, keeping receipts and wrappers as evidence of their accomplishment. While runners are mostly free to pick their own items, all runners must consume a Chalupa Supreme (min. 330 calories) or a Crunchwrap Supreme (min. 520 calories) by the 4th stop, as well as a Burrito Supreme (min. 370 calories) or a Nachos Bell Grande by the 8th stop (min. 710 calories).
There’s also a ‘Diablo Challenge,’ which involves incorporating the restaurant’s spiciest sauce into the dining of the day and taking a shooter of the sauce at the end of the race. Those who aren’t fans of spicy food may want to opt for the ‘Baja Blast Challenge’ instead, which means consuming two liters of the restaurant’s popular Baja Blast soda throughout the run without vomiting.
Other interesting rules of the race also exist, including that no on-course Pepto, Alka Seltzer, Pepcid A/C, or Mylanta are allowed.
The lowest-calorie regular menu item at Taco Bell appears to be the chicken soft taco, at 160 calories each. Someone opting for the lowest calorie menu items and abiding by the requirements of the race would be consuming 1,820 calories at a minimum throughout the race.
“If you complete the challenge, you will be deemed a SURVIVOR, revered and heckled for life!” reads the event website.
