Homeowners interrupt break-in at mountain home in Grand County

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after homeowners interrupted a break-in at their residence in the Winter Park Highlands neighborhood on Friday afternoon.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that they received a report of the break-in on Friday at about 4:36 p.m. The homeowners had returned home and found a white Volvo with Missouri license plates in their garage and an adult male also in the garage. The man is described as about 40-50 years old with grey hair, a partial beard, and wearing a hat and medical mask. Police say there was an altercation between the male homeowner and the suspect.
According to the police, the initial investigation found that the homeowners did not know the suspect. The suspect had allegedly unlawfully entered the house through a backdoor window.
Deputies obtained a suspect name consistent with the registered owner of the white Volvo from property left at the scene. Deputies conducted an extensive search of the Winter Park Highlands area. They did not find the suspect.
Police later determined that the suspect is no longer in Grand County. However, the investigation is still active and no additional information will be released at this time.
Police encourage homeowners in the Winter Park Highlands area to check their residences, outbuildings, and vehicles and report suspicious circumstances to the sheriff’s office. There is a chance the suspect accessed other properties in the area.
