Man dead after hit-and-run in Aurora Wednesday morning
A man is dead after he was hit by vehicle on East Hampden Avenue in Aurora Wednesday morning.
Three officers responded to a call of a person lying in the roadway just after 6 a.m. Wednesday, finding the man on the scene, the Aurora Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. The man had suffered significant injuries from the crash and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The initial investigation into the incident has found that the man was pushing a shopping cart in the eastbound lane of East Hampden Avenue, just east of South Picadilly Road, when he was hit by a vehicle also traveling eastbound, according to the release. The vehicle allegedly continued driving after the crash, possibly heading in the direction of Gun Club Road.
The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office pending an autopsy and notification of family. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
