First-degree murder charge filed against woman who allgedly stabbed mother to death in Westminster
The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday the filing of murder charges against a woman accused of fatally stabbing her mother in Westminster on Sunday.
Sarah Riste, 37, faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the fatal stabbing of her mother inside a home along 92nd Place in Westminster, according to a news release from the office.
Police first responded to the call of a disturbance in the 3300 block of West 92nd Place just before 2 p.m. Sunday, finding a dead adult woman inside who showed signs of trauma, the Westminster Police Department said on social media on Monday. Riste and a child were at the residence when police arrived.
Authorities determine Riste was the suspect and took her into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder, police said. The child was turned over to Child Protective Services.
The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the mother’s identity in the coming days pending an autopsy.
Riste appeared before an Adams County judge Thursday morning to be advised of the charges against her, according to court documents.
