Motorcyclist dies after crash into barrier, then hit by motorist on I-70 Wednesday night

A motorcyclist died overnight Thursday after crashing into the Interstate 70 eastbound center barrier and then hit by a vehicle traveling in the eastbound direction.

Police first announced they were investigating the scene of a crash in the area of the I-70 and North Tennyson Street, the Denver Police Department said on social media just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Authorities closed all eastbound and westbound lanes of the interstate between Sheridan and Federal Boulevards for the investigation.

The initial investigation into the crash has revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on I-70 when the motorcycle hit the center barrier and the rider was thrown, police confirmed Thursday. He or she — police did not provide specifics — landed in the eastbound lanes of the interstate and was subsequently hit by a vehicle traveling in that direction.

Authorities pronounced the motorcyclist dead on the scene and the motorist hitting him or her remained after the crash, police said. Police announced that the roadway reopened just after 7 a.m. Thursday.
