NEWS NUGGETS | City holiday, coat drive and trunk or treat
City and county offices to close Oct. 13
Most Denver city and county offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Emergency services, the airport, and Denver’s police and fire departments will operate normally.
A community-focused celebration, scheduled to begin at noon and conclude at 6 p.m., is planned for City Park to commemorate the first official, paid holiday status for this day. There will be an opening ceremony, traditional dances, a round dance and other live performances, cultural vendors, food trucks and family activities.
Denver Police host community winter coat drive
The Denver Police Department is collecting new or clean, gently used winter coats as part of its Community Cares Winter Coat Drive. Donations of coats in all sizes will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Oct. 23, at any of these district police stations:
District 1 – 1311 W. 46th Ave.
District 2 – 3921 Holly St.
District 3 – 1625 S. University Blvd.
District 4 – 2100 S. Clay St.
District 5 – 12025 E. 45th Ave.
District 6 – 1566 Washington St.

Denver Parks and Rec ‘Trunk or Treat’ events
Looking for a spooktacular start to Halloween? Denver Parks and Recreation will host a series of community Trunk-or-Treat events at the following locations:
- 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at the La Alma Recreation Center, 1325 W. 11th Ave.
- 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, at the Aztlan Recreation Center, 4435 Navajo St.
- 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at the Cook Park Recreation Center, 7100 Cherry Creek Drive.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be decorated trunks, games and candy.
Public Health board members wanted
The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment is looking for individuals to serve on the Board of Public Health and Environment (BPHE). This volunteer board helps shape local health priorities and policies.
Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31, 2025.
