Man dead after hit by car while riding bicycle in Aurora on Wednesday

A man died Wednesday morning after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Aurora, Aurora police said.

The man was riding his bicycle southbound on South Kittredge Way when a van, also traveling southbound on the roadway and where there is no bike lane, hit him from behind, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Police first responded to the scene just before 7 a.m., Wednesday, according to the release. The victim was taken to the hospital shortly after police arrived on scene, however, later died from his injuries.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation, investigators said. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol are contributing factors to the crash at this time.

The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner in the coming days.
