Aurora police sergeant, school resource supervisor arrested on suspicion of exploiting a child online

An Aurora police sergeant and school resource officer supervisor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of exploiting a child online.
Sgt. Aaron Bunch was immediately placed on unpaid administrative leave for allegedly exchanging child exploitation material using the internet, according to a Wednesday night news release from the Aurora Police Department (APD).
The FBI will handle the criminal investigation while the APD will investigate Bunch’s policy or conduct violations.
“This is a sad and angering day for the Aurora Police department and the community we serve,” APD Chief Todd Chamberlain said in the release. “The allegations against this individual are disturbing and completely contrary to the values and mission of this department. This person has brought shame and disgrace to the badge and to an honorable profession. Such behavior undermines the trust and legitimacy that our officers work hard to earn every single day.”
Officials do not currently believe any children within Aurora Public Schools, the Cherry Creek School District or the greater Aurora community were victimized by Bunch, according to the release. Authorities are working with the superintendents of both school districts as the investigation continues.
Bunch was hired by the APD in 2005 and worked in a supervisory role, and was not assigned to any specific school, APD officials said.
“I want to make it absolutely clear; these actions will never be tolerated,” Chamberlain said in the release. “This case will be investigated thoroughly, and the individual will be held accountable through both the criminal justice system and our internal process.”
