Condé Nast Traveler names one Colorado ski area ‘No. 23 Ski Resort in US’ for 2025

Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards and one southwestern Colorado ski resort made the list as the #23-ranked ski resort in the USA.

Purgatory Mountain Resort north of Durango can now add this accolade to its wall.

According to Condé Nast Traveler, it received more than 757,000 survey responses from readers across the U.S., rating their travel experiences across the globe to offer a comprehensive look at the places they eagerly anticipate revisiting.

“We’re grateful for this recognition and for the guests who choose Purgatory year after year,” Dave Rathbun, Purgatory’s General Manager said. “Our goal is straightforward: give people the freedom to ski, including more time on snow, less time in lines, and make snow sports accessible for families.”

Daily operations are scheduled through April 5, 2026, with weekend operations continuing as conditions allow.

“Purgatory continues to invest in the guest experience heading into its 60th season, including improved snowmaking, affordable lift tickets, and free skiing for all kids ages 12 and younger,” Condé Nast Traveler said in a statement regarding the announcement.

The 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards are published on Condé Nast Traveler’s website at cntraveler.com/rca and celebrated in the November issue.

Purgatory announced that its lift tickets for winter 2025–26 are on sale now, starting from $10 on select dates.

The resort said its demand-based pricing rewards guests who plan ahead with the lowest rates with prices adjusting as demand increases.

Another perk about Purgatory is the resort’s Purgatory Power Kids, which offers unlimited free skiing for all kids 12 and younger, with no purchase required or blackout dates.
