Movie rundown for the weekend through Oct. 12: ‘Tron: Ares’ opens

OPENING

“100 Meters” — (Anime, not rated, 106 minutes). Togashi dominates 100-meter races with ease, until in sixth grade when transfer student Komiya arrives, forcing Togashi to train harder.

“A House of Dynamite” — (Thriller, R, 112 minutes). A race against time begins to try to figure out who launched a missile at the United States and how to respond.

The Ice Tower — (Drama, not rated, 117 minutes). While seeing a shoot for the film adaptation of “The Snow Queen,” 15-year-old Jeanne becomes fascinated by the movie’s star, Cristina.

“Kiss of the Spider Woman” — (Drama, R, 128 minutes). An unlikely bond forms between Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency, and political prisoner Valentín when Molina recounts a Hollywood musical starring Ingrid Luna.

“Roofman” — (Drama, R, 126 minutes). After escaping, Jeffrey Manchester, who was in jail for robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us while trying to figure out his next move. However, his double life gets harder when he falls for a divorced mom named Leigh.

“Soul on Fire” — (Drama, PG, 111 minutes). To survive, a young boy must rely on his family, his community and his faith after a devastating accident.

“Tron: Ares” — (Action, PG-13, 119 minutes). Ares, a very sophisticated AI being from the digital world, is sent to the real world to complete a dangerous mission.

“Anemone” — (Drama, R, 121 minutes). A man goes on a journey in the Northern England woods to reconnect with his estranged hermit brother.

“The Bad Guys 2” — (Action, PG, 104 minutes). Grade: B, Mark Meszoros. Although the Bad Guys are now trying to live their lives as good guys, they are pulled out of retirement by an all-female squad named the Bad Girls to do one last job.

“Bone Lake” — (Horror, R, 94 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. When a couple on vacation must share a mansion at a secluded estate with another couple, a dream getaway turns into a battle for survival.

“Casper” 30th Anniversary — (Comedy, PG, 100 minutes). An afterlife therapist and his daughter encounter a young, friendly ghost when they move into an old mansion to rid it of wicked spirits.

“The Conjuring: Last Rites” — (Horror, R, 135 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren confront mysterious entities during a terrifying case.

“Coyotes” — (Thriller, R, 92 minutes). A family fights for their lives in their Hollywood Hills home when they are trapped between a wildfire and a pack of coyotes.

“The Dark Crystal” — (Adventure, PG, 93 minutes). The last of the Gelfling race goes on a quest to find a missing piece of a magical crystal that can restore order to his world.

“Dead of Winter” — (Action, R, 97 minutes). Grade: B-, Mark Meszoros. While traveling alone through snowbound northern Minnesota, a woman comes across a kidnapping in the process and realizes she is the girl’s only hope, as they are hours away from the nearest town and have no cellphone service.

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” — (Animated, R, 155 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. Tanjiro, Nezuko and the Hashira encounter Upper Rank demons while fighting against Muzan Kibutsuji.

“Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” — (Drama, PG, 123 minutes). The Crawley family must learn to accept change, with the next generation taking Downton Abbey into the future.

“Dude Perfect: The Hero Tour” — (Comedy, not rated, 100 minutes). Experience the sold-out tour of the immersive show with classic segments and backstage access.

“Eleanor the Great” — (Drama, PG-13, 98 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Eleanor  Morgenstein, 94 years old, tells the stories of living alone after a devastating loss.

“Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie” — (Comedy, G, 98 minutes). While on a road trip with her grandma, Gabby’s prized dollhouse ends up in the hands of an eccentric cat lady, so the two go on an adventure to get the Gabby Cats back together and find the dollhouse before it’s too late.

“Good Boy” — (Comedy/Horror, PG-13, 72 minutes). After a loyal dog encounters supernatural forces in the rural home that he and his owner moved into, the brave pup must fight to protect the one he loves the most.

“Him” — (Horror, R, 96 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. A young athlete finds himself in a world of terror while training with a legendary champion whose charisma turns dark.

“Kantara: A Legend — Chapter 1” — (Action, not rated, 165 minutes). A look into the forgotten lore surrounding Kaadubettu Shiva during the Kadamba dynasty era.

“The Long Walk” — (Horror, R, 108 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. A group of teenage boys must maintain a specific walking speed in a contest known as The Long Walk or be shot.

“One Battle After Another” — (Action, R, 161 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. A group of ex-revolutionaries reunite after one of their daughters goes missing when their enemy resurfaces after 16 years.

“Perfect Blue” Remastered — (Anime, not rated, 82 minutes). A singer who gave up her career to be an actress slowly goes insane after she is stalked by an obsessed fan who is a ghost of her past.

Predators — (Documentary, not rated, 96 minutes). A look at the controversial NBC series showing how potential child predators were caught in sting operations.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” 50th Anniversary — (Horror, R, 100 minutes). Caught in a rainstorm, a couple takes refuge in a castle owned by a transvestite mad scientist from outer space who is about to unveil his greatest creation.

“The Smashing Machine” — (Action, R, 123 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. The story of Mark Kerr, mixed-martial arts and UFC champion.

“The Strangers: Chapter 2” — (Horror, R, 96 minutes). When a couple’s vehicle breaks down on their final day of a cross-country road trip, they are forced to spend the night in a remote Airbnb, where they are terrorized by three masked strangers.
