Broncos struggle on offense but defense has 9 sacks in 13-11 win over hapless Jets

LONDON – The Broncos insisted all week it wasn’t a “trap game.” It nearly was.
The Broncos flirted with danger throughout the game before finally defeating the winless New York Jets 13-11 on Sunday at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Broncos trailed 11-10 until Wil Lutz kicked a 27-yard field goal with 5:06 left in the game to put them up for good at 13-11.
The Broncos had nine sacks. They won their third straight game to raise their record to 4-2. The Jets remain the NFL’s only winless team at 0-6.
The Jets’ offense was brutal throughout the game, but they got help from the Broncos’ offense and special teams.
On Denver’s first possession, wide receiver Troy Franklin lost a fumble, leading to a 52-yard field goal by Nick Folk. The Jets later in the quarter got a 41-yard field goal by Folk for a 6-3 lead that was set up by a 72-yard kickoff return by Kene Nwangwu.
The Broncos in the second quarter took a 10-6 lead on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix to Nate Adkins. The Jets cut it to 10-9 on a 38-yard field goal by Folk in the third quarter, and later in the quarter Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz was called for holding in the end zone for a safety. That gave the Jets a 11-10 lead.
Nix completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards. But he didn’t do much in the second half, with the Broncos scoring just three points.
The Broncos were coming off an emotional 21-17 upset win at Philadelphia. They practiced throughout the week in the London area.
The defense saved Denver before 61,155 fans. The Broncos had nine sacks of Jets quarterback Justin Fields, including two by outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper.
