Swastika displayed along I-70 prompts criminal investigation

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Thousands of drivers traveling east toward Denver on Saturday morning were confronted with a sight that was impossible to miss: a massive swastika spread across a hillside near the Morrison exit on Interstate 70.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is investigating the incident, officials calling the display a “vile, antisemitic symbol of hate.”

Jefferson County Open Space officials said the swastika’s location — visible from the highway but difficult to reach — made cleanup challenging. Rangers had to scale up a hill to remove it. By 10 a.m. the tarp material had been cleared away.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said whoever did this could face criminal charges along with multiple park violations and fines from Jefferson County Open Space.
