Investigation into illegal elk killing underway at Great Sand Dunes National Park

Authorities at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve have requested assistance from the public in solving a case of poaching that recently took place at the San Luis Valley destination.

According to a report on the matter, suspected poaching took place around September 9 to 10 in the Hudson drainage area of the National Preserve portion of the park, near Mosca, Colorado.

At this point, authorities are seeking information about a dark-colored Ram pick-up truck and a six-foot-tall white male with brown hair and a close-trimmed beard, seen wearing camouflage, a ball cap, and a backpack. It is also believed the person of interest may have been carrying a compound bow with bright fletching and two elk antlers with four to five points that were removed from the skull.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact authorities at 719-589-5807.
