Weld County deputy taken to hospital after vehicle hit by semi-truck Wednesday

A Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hospitalized Wednesday morning after a semi-truck hit the deputy’s parked patrol vehicle.

At approximately 4:13 a.m., the deputy was parked on the right shoulder behind an unoccupied Nissan Rogue, which was awaiting a tow after its driver was arrested for a DUI, when the deputy’s vehicle was hit by a semi truck, according to a news release from Colorado State Patrol. The deputy was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

According to CSP, the semi ran off the road into a ditch between Interstate 25 and Frontage Road, with the driver reporting no injuries from the collision, according to the release. Only one southbound lane of Interstate 25 was open near milepost 236 Wednesday morning.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by CSP.
