Elderly motorcyclist dead after crash in Brighton Thursday afternoon

An 82-year-old motorcyclist died after she crashed her motorcycle on Interstate 76 in Brighton Thursday afternoon.

Initial information indicates that the woman was riding eastbound on the interstate near Eagle Boulevard when she hit the center barrier and was thrown from the motorcycle just before 2 p.m. Thursday, according to a Friday news release from the Brighton Police Department. The motorcycle then flipped over the barrier and hit a vehicle driving westbound.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. The driver of the vehicle hit by the motorcycle did not sustain any injuries.

An off-duty Aurora police officer was one of the first responders on the scene, and was giving aid to the woman when Brighton police arrived, according to the release. Authorities do not believe speed or intoxication were contributing factors to the crash.

The woman will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office in the coming days pending autopsy and notification of family. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Brighton Police Department tip line at 303-655-8740.
