Parker police fatally shoot gas station employee Monday night

Parker Police Department officers fatally shot a gas station employee Monday night after he became agitated and pointed a gun at them, they said Tuesday afternoon.

Six Parker police officers have been placed on administrative leave in relation to the shooting in accordance with department policy, according to a Tuesday news release from Parker police. The incident is the first officer-involved shooting since 2017.

The call began when multiple residents called 911 to report shots fired in the area of Jordan and Mainstreet around 10:20 p.m. Monday, according to the release. When police arrived on-scene, they found shell casings and live ammunition in the parking lot of the T Square gas station, located at 17050 East Mainstreet.

Police contacted the employee, a 32-year-old man, who first told them he was a witness of the shots fired call, according to the release. During their conversation, the man allegedly got angry with the officers, and began lifting his sweatshirt to show a gun tucked into his waistband.

The authorities tried to de-escalate the situation, they said, but the man eventually pulled the gun out and began pointing it at the six officers on-scene, according to the release. Police then shot him.

The man was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to the release. None of the involved officers were injured in the shooting.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information about the man or the circumstances leading up to the shooting is asked to contact the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The district’s Douglas County phone number is 720-733-4500, according to its website.
