Pedestrian dead, driver arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Aurora
Aurora police arrested a driver believed responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Colfax Avenue Tuesday evening.
Daryl Murray, 32, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, failing to notify police of a crash and leaving the scene of a crash, according to a statement from the Aurora Police Department Wednesday morning. Murray was driving a GMC SUV Tuesday evening when he allegedly hit a pedestrian crossing north across Colfax Avenue.
Police first responded to the scene of the crash around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the statement. The pedestrian, an adult male, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators were able to identify Murray’s GMC using FLOCK cameras, they said. Officers then responded to a Denver address that was associated with the vehicle and took Murray into custody without incident.
Police are holding Murray at the Aurora Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, they said. Formal charges will come from the 17th Judicial District in the coming days.
Colfax Avenue was closed for a period of time between Laredo and Chambers for the investigation, the Aurora Police Department first said on social media Tuesday.
