Federal Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit Project Open Houses

The Colorado Department of Transportation is soliciting public engagement for its Bus Rapid Transit project along one of metro Denver’s busiest corridors: Federal Boulevard.

Two open houses are scheduled this week, offering residents a chance to view preliminary designs and proposed station locations, and to learn about next steps for the project, according to a news release.

CDOT staff and project team members will be on hand to answer questions, with burritos, beverages, and children’s activities provided to make the events family-friendly.

The presentations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at The MAC, 3295 W. 72nd Ave., Westminster, CO 80030, and Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Westwood Community Center, 1000 S. Lowell Blvd., Denver, CO 80219.

Spanish and Vietnamese interpreters will be available at both meetings. Residents needing special accommodations, including sign language, can email FederalBlvdBRT@gmail.com.

Federal Boulevard carries 9,000 daily bus boardings, making it one of the Regional Transportation District’s highest-ridership routes. Yet buses often crawl through traffic, resulting in unreliable service and long travel times.

The BRT project seeks to improve transit times by introducing high-capacity bus service that mimics light rail features such as enhanced stations, all-door boarding, pre-purchase ticketing, transit signal priority, and dedicated curbside lanes in most sections.

The route is planned to run from the Englewood Park-n-Ride to the Wagon Road Park-n-Ride, connecting across Denver, Englewood, Federal Heights, Westminster, and Adams County.

Preliminary design, engineering, and environmental reviews wrap up in early 2026, followed by final design through 2027. Construction is slated for 2027–2029, with service launching around 2030.

The project is a collaboration between the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation District, Adams County, the City and County of Denver, the Denver Regional Council of Governments, and the cities of Englewood, Federal Heights, and Westminster.

These open houses are a prime opportunity for input as designs solidify. “Community feedback is shaping this transformative project,” CDOT emphasized in its announcement.
