Broncos sign Michael Bandy to 53-man roster, elevate Marcedes Lewis, Reese Taylor to face Raiders

Entering Thursday night’s home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Broncos promoted wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Bandy took the spot of defensive back J.T. Gray, who was waived Tuesday with an injury designation. He will return punts against the Raiders with Marvin Mims Jr. out with a concussion.

The Broncos also elevated tight end Marcedes Lewis and cornerback Reese Taylor from the practice squad to face the Raiders. It was the second straight elevation for Lewis, 41, who became the oldest player in Broncos history when he got in for six snaps in last Sunday’s 18-15 win at Houston. It marks the first elevation of the season for Taylor, who provides depth with cornerback Pat Surtain II out with a strained left pectoral.

Hours later, the Broncos officially made Bandy, Lewis and Taylor active to face the Raiders. Also active was safety P.J. Locke, who had been listed as questionable with a neck injury. In addition to Surtain and Mims, inactive were tight end Nate Adkins (knee), running back Jaleel McLaughlin, outside linebacker Que Robinson and defensive linemen Sav’ion Jones and Jordan Jackson.

It marks the second straight game Bandy will replace Mims in returning punts. He was elevated from the practice squad against the Texans and returned four punts for 30 yards.

Bandy at Houston played in his first NFL regular-season game since 2023 and caught his first pass since 2022, a 16-yard grab. On the downside, he muffed a punt in the second quarter that led to a Houston field goal.

Inactive for the Raiders were running back Zamir White, tight end Carter Runyon, guard Caleb Rogers and defensive linemen JJ Pegues and Leki Fotu.
