John Elway stars on red carpet at movie debut in Denver
John Elway is credited with 31 game-winning drives in his 16-year NFL career, but he’s never run a gauntlet quite like his red-carpet walk to close out the 48th Denver Film Festival on Saturday night.
Surrounded by by family, Netflix executives and former Denver Broncos teammates including Terrell Davis, Mark Jackson, Karl Mecklenburg and Keith Bishop, Elway worked his way through a horde of flashing cameras, rolling TV cameras and well-wishers on his way inside the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, where a posh, world-premiere screening of the upcoming Netflix documentary “Elway,” was held.
Inside, Broncos cheerleaders posed for lobby photos with fans, along with al three, three Super Bowl trophies.
Before the screening, Elway admitted to something that was never true on the football field.
“I am nervous,” he said. “This is the first time been to a movie, and it’s about me.”
After the 90-minute screening, Elway and documentary director Ken Rodgers took questions from CBS4 news anchor Michael Spencer.
Netflix has not yet announced a national release date for date for the documentary. Look for more on the madness in Monday’s Denver Gazette.
