Broncos sign tackle Geron Christian, waive receiver Michael Bandy, place linebacker Karene Reid on IR
The Broncos added depth to their offensive line Tuesday by plucking veteran tackle Geron Christian off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.
The Broncos also waived wide receiver Michael Bandy, placed inside linebacker Karene Reid on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury and released offensive lineman Marques Cox from the practice squad. A source said the Broncos want to re-sign Bandy to the practice squad if he clears waivers and that the receiver would be agreeable to that.
Christian, a third-round pick by Washington in 2018, has played for Washington, Houston, Kansas City, Cleveland and the Los Angeles Rams. He appeared in five games last season with the Browns and the Rams without a start.
Christian, 29, has appeared in 63 NFL games with 23 starts. Christian was on the Chiefs during their Super Bowl-winning season of 2022, getting into 10 regular-season games but none in the playoffs. The Broncos face the Chiefs on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.

“He’s going to provide a lot of wisdom and athleticism,’’ said Vince Taylor, Christian’s agent, who said his client was in Denver on Tuesday and ready to practice Wednesday.
Christian will provide depth on Denver’s offensive line with guard Ben Powers and tackle-guard Matt Peart being on injured reserve. With Alex Palczewski having moved recently from tackle to left guard, Denver’s only reserve tackle on the 53-man roster had been second-year man Frank Crum.
Reid, an undrafted rookie, was hurt in Thursday’s 10-7 win over Las Vegas. With Reid out and team captain Alex Singleton also out against the Chiefs after surgery last Friday for testicular cancer, the Broncos are down to two healthy linebackers on the 53-man roster in Dre Greenlaw and Justin Strnad. However, Jordan Turner and Levelle Bailey are both possibilities to be elevated off the practice squad.
With receiver-returner Marvin Mims Jr. having missed the past two games with a concussion, Bandy was elevated from the practice squad primarily to return punts Nov. 2 at Houston. He was then signed to the 53-man roster to perform that role against the Raiders.
In two games, Bandy returned five punts for 29 yards and caught a pass for 16 yards. But Mims is expected to return against the Chiefs.
Tuesday’s moves left the Broncos with one spot open on the 53-man roster and two open on the practice squad. If Bandy clears waivers, he would be in line to fill one of the spots on the practice squad.

Dobbins’ foot injury
With running back J.K. Dobbins expected to miss some time due to a left foot injury, a source said Tuesday the Broncos are considering placing him on injured reserve.
Dobbins left the game against the Raiders late in the third quarter with an injury that occurred when defensive end Tyree Wilson dragged him down with what appeared to be an illegal hip-drop tackle. He did return to carry the ball six times late in the fourth quarter.
Last Friday, Dobbins posted on social media, “BAN OR AT LEAST CALL THE (expletive) HIP DROP TACKLE!” The hip drop tackle was outlawed in 2024. No penalty was called on the play and it won’t be known until Saturday whether there will be a fine for the tackle.
The Broncos are continuing to get information on Dobbins’ injury. Their backup running back is rookie RJ Harvey. They also have on the roster at running back Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin, who has been inactive for all but one game this season.
Dobbins is fifth in the NFL with 772 rushing yards.

Cowher went 1-0 vs. Payton
Hall of Fame coach Bill Cowher laughed when informed he went 1-0 in his career against Sean Payton.
In 2006, when Cowher was in his final NFL season, his Pittsburgh Steelers won 38-31 over the New Orleans Saints, with Payton in his first season as a head coach. Payton is in his 18th season, including his third with Denver.
“I’m definitely going to bring that up to him,’’ said Cowher, who coached the Steelers from 1992-2006. “We played against each other as head coaches one time.’’
Cowher, now an analyst for “The NFL Today,” will be in Denver on Sunday when the CBS pregame show is broadcast live from Empower Field.
