Camper trailer found fully engulfed in flames in remote Colorado
Editor’s Note: The headline of this piece has been tweaked for better clarity. The ‘camper’ referred to in the press release on the matter is a ‘camper trailer,’ not an individual, as is further detailed in the text of the piece below.
On November 11, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire in the area of Klondike Mine, which is located about 20 miles southwest of Norwood in Big Gypsum Valley. Once at the scene, it was determined that a hunter’s camper trailer had become fully engulfed in flames.
Norwood Fire was able to contain the blaze to the campsite, though the camper was fully lost. Thankfully, no other structures were damaged and there was no report of related injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with Bureau of Land Management investigators headed to the scene at last report.
Images from the scene show other campers and recreational vehicles in the surrounding area that presumably could have been put at risk if the fire had spread.
