Douglas County judge sentences NYC man in licking, stabbing incident involving ‘Bachelor’ TV personality
A Douglas County judge sentenced a New York City man for his involvement in a fight after his girlfriend licked the face of a TV show personality in 2021.
Douglas County District Judge Victoria Klingensmith sentenced Carlos Vega Jr., 42, to five years in the Colorado Department of Corrections on convictions of second-degree assault and two counts of menacing, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s office.
On July 11, 2021, Vega and his girlfriend were at the Clock Tower Grill near Lone Tree, where they met Jessica Edwards. At the time, Edwards had appeared on the ABC television series “The Bachelor” and “Bachelor in Paradise.”
While at Clock Tower Grill, Vega’s girlfriend unexpectedly licked the face of Edwards, leading to a confrontation between Edward’s boyfriend, Jordan Hyder, and Vega.
After they exchanged words, Hyder punched Vega, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed Hyder in the hand, according to authorities.
Prior to the incident, Vega was recently released from a New York prison after serving time for manslaughter.
Netflix producers, who were working with Vega on a documentary, sent letters to Douglas County courts requesting for leniency on Vega.
Pointing to Vega’s violent criminal history, the Douglas County district judge sentenced him to five years, according to the release .
“Another out-of-towner finds out the hard way that our jurisdiction is in the West, but it is not the Wild West. If you bring a knife to a lick fight you are going to prison,” 23rd Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler said in the release.
