Independence Pass to close temporarily before winter storm

With snow forecasted for the near future, Independence Pass (Highway 82) above Lincoln Creek will close on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.

According to a Facebook post from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, the pass is closing due to safety prior to the expected arrival of a winter storm.

The post said that no vehicles will be allowed between Lincoln Creek on the Aspen side and the winter closure gate on the Twin Lakes side. However, foot and bike traffic is still allowed.

If you are planning to be on Independence Pass for outdoor recreation be sure to have your vehicle outside of the closure area by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
