No. 3 Denver hockey falls in overtime for weekend split at Arizona State
The winning streak is over.
After David Carle and No. 3 Denver began NCHC conference play with five straight wins, the Pioneers fell to Arizona State in overtime by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night in Tempe.
It snaps a six-game winning streak overall for the Pioneers, but they still have not lost in regulation since Oct. 25 at Northeastern.
The Sun Devils scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room, but DU stormed back over the next two periods with a pair of goals from Sam Harris as the junior forward made a spectacular individual play twice.
With 20 seconds left in overtime, Arizona State star Cullen Potter scored to seal the 3-2 win after a chaotic, back-and-forth extra session.
Freshman goaltender Quentin Miller suffered his third defeat of the season, stopping 24 of 27 shots on the night.
The Pios remain in first place in the NCHC with 15 points from six games. DU returns home next weekend for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game against Minnesota on Saturday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
