5 killed, including 3 juveniles, in Douglas County crash Monday evening
A three-vehicle crash that began when one driver lost control killed five people, including three juveniles, and seriously injured two juveniles in Douglas County, just south of Franktown, on Monday evening.
A Toyota hatchback traveling southbound on Colorado 83 near Russellville Road went off the right shoulder for an unknown reason before rolling into the northbound lane, according to a news release by Colorado State Patrol.
The driver was ejected from the Toyota when it rolled and was pronounced dead on the scene. The hatchback then hit a Ford sedan head-on that had an adult driver and five juveniles, the release stated.
The driver of the sedan and three of the juveniles were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two juveniles were seriously injured and airlifted to a medical facility, according to the release.
The Toyota hatchback continued traveling in the wrong direction on Colorado 83 and struck a Ford pickup, causing minor damage and no injuries.
Colorado 83 will be closed until the investigation and cleanup is complete.
