NEWS NUGGETS | Snow Angels, bike meeting and more resources for Denver families

Snow Angels

The Denver Snow Angels program is a Denver Human Rights & Community Partnerships‘ effort to assist residents in Denver who are physically unable to shovel their front sidewalks, including adjacent ADA ramps and bus stops, during the cold winter months.

This volunteer-based initiative aims to foster neighborly connections but also helps ensure compliance with the city’s requirement to keep walkways in front of homes clear, preventing fines.

The program, which has been around for about five years, recently launched a new online platform that automatically pairs homes in need with volunteers near those areas.

Eligible applicants for assistance must reside in the City and County of Denver, be an older adult who is physically unable to shovel or an adult living with a disability. Applicants must also demonstrate that they are unable to pay for a snow removal service.

Those interested in applying for assistance with snow removal should visit www.denvergov.org/snowangels to learn more and submit their applications or email SnowAngels@denvergov.org.

City launches new “one-stop” web page for families

The Denver Office of Children’s Affairs published a new “one-stop shop” website to help families and young people connect with after-school programs, childcare, employment support and other family resources in the city.

“The care and thought put into creating this website reflects the dedication of our partners and everyone committed to the success of young people in our community,” Denver City Council Pro Tem Diana Romero Campbell said. “When Denverites come together to support our children — from birth through adulthood — our community grows stronger and ensures there’s no wrong door for our young people.”
