Double-fatal Lakewood crash tied to father-son street race, police say
The Lakewood Police Department arrested a father and son in connection to a crash that killed two bystanders.
Gregory Mark Giles, 65, and his 26-year-old son Bryce Anneaus Giles turned themselves in to Lakewood police on Monday evening in connection to a fatal crash that occurred Nov. 11, according to a news release from the department.
Police initially responded to a crash around 9 p.m. at the intersection of South Kipling Parkway and West Mississippi Avenue on reports of a crash involving “several” vehicles, according to the release.
Five people were taken to the hospital, with 26-year-old Demi Iglesias and 28-year-old Dalton Smith both dying from their injuries.
Police did not say if the two suspects were included in the five injured in the incident.
Witnesses told detectives that a car race between a father and son caused the fatal crash, and more than a week later, the duo reported to the police department.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of two counts of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, engaging in a speed contest and reckless driving. Both were jailed on a $250,000 cash bail and are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3.
