Unexpected ZIP code in Colorado one of ‘hottest’ in US – but it makes sense

A company called MovingPlace recently released a report on the ‘hottest’ ZIP codes around the United States that are attracting the most inbound movers, and an unexpected Colorado area ranked among the ‘top 5.’

In order to create the ranking, the company looked at October migration data, looking at what areas around the United States were attracting the most new residents. To provide a bit of context before the big reveal, the company found that two factors seemed to be contributing to moving trends – affordability and space. In other words, people seem to be headed to places where they can get more square footage at a lower cost.

Without further ado, Colorado’s 80019 ZIP code was determined to be 4th-hottest in the nation in terms of inbound moves per capita. The location of that ZIP code? Aurora, with 11.2 moves per 1,000 residents. A total of 6,141 residents call this ZIP code home per the report, with the area located on the northeast side of Aurora and just south of Denver International Airport.

While Aurora tends to get overlooked due to a number of factors, including that it’s closer to the Eastern Plains than the Front Range mountains, Aurora indeed does offer a more affordable place to live compared to neighboring Denver, and it’s still within reach of all the Mile High City amenities. This ZIP code, in particular, is relatively less developed, too, with plenty of land for new developments and spacious lots. It’s close proximity to Denver International Airport is also a perk for frequent fliers.

It’s also worth noting that September was a good month for inbound movers to the 80019 ZIP code, as well, with this area ranking as the 9th-hottest ZIP code in the MovingPlace report that month.

The total MovingPlace analysis considered 961,650 moves nationwide that took place in October.
