OLB Jonah Elliss ruled out against Commanders with hamstring injury | Broncos notebook

The Broncos ruled out edge rusher Jonah Elliss with a hamstring injury against the Commanders on Sunday night.

Elliss, a second-year outside linebacker, did not play in Denver’s 22-19 win over Kansas City one week prior to the bye. He was a limited participant in all three practices this week and on Saturday was downgraded from questionable to out. He did not travel with the team.

Elliss suffered his hamstring injury in a Week 10 victory over the Raiders. He also sat out two games in October with a shoulder injury. His absence should create more edge rushing opportunities for rookie Que Robinson.

The Broncos will also be without tight end Nate Adkins (ankle) against the Commanders. The good news? Cornerback Pat Surtain makes his return to play after missing three games with a partially torn pectoral muscle.

TE shortage

The Broncos did not make any roster moves Saturday despite a position shortage.

Injured tight end Nate Adkins (knee) will miss his fourth consecutive game. The Broncos elevated veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis from the practice squad in each of the last three games in Adkins’ absence. Lewis is out of elevations and must be signed to the active roster.

The Broncos opted not to sign Lewis on Saturday. It means that tight ends Adam Trautman and Evan Engram will split tight end snaps against the Commanders.

Briefly

Right guard Quinn Meinerz discussed his priorities over the bye week. Meinerz told The Denver Gazette on Friday: “The biggest benefit, after playing for as long as I have now, is that I have a better understanding of what I need to do. It allows me to get completely away from the game. I understand the offense. I know what we’re trying to do. We’ve played 11 weeks straight. To be at home was great.” … The Broncos’ uniform combination on Sunday will be blue helmets, orange jerseys and orange pants. … The Commanders have lost six games in a row.
