CHSAA football season ends with riveting title games in Fort Collins | The Starting Lineup

Turn on the game!

Three must-see events this week:

  1. Broncos at Washington Commanders (6:20 p.m. Sunday, NBC) – Denver is back from its bye week, looking for its ninth straight win. The Broncos need a win to keep pace in the race for the AFC’s No. 1 seed.
  2. Nuggets vs. Dallas Mavericks (7 p.m. Monday, Altitude) – Denver has lost three home games in a row and will look to break that streak against No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks.
  3. CHSAA football championship tripleheader (10 a.m. Saturday, Altitude 2) – The high school football season wraps up with the Class 3A (Pomona vs. Windsor), 4A (Palmer Ridge vs. Dakota Ridge) and 5A (Ralston Valley vs. Cherry Creek) title games at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.

Numbers game

11 – players have received contract extensions from the Broncos since 2024, the latest being linemen Malcolm Roach and Luke Wattenberg

Box office

$66 – for a ticket on SeatGeek to see the best team in the NHL, the Avalanche, take on the Vancouver Canucks at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ball Arena.

On this day

Nov. 30, 2017 – Will Barton scored 37 points and netted the game-winner with 3.8 seconds left in a 111-110 win over the Bulls at Pepsi Center, a win that came after Denver lost Nikola Jokic to an injury in the second quarter

Final word

The Broncos are doing the right thing by paying their players while quarterback Bo Nix is on his rookie contract. It has worked in the past, but options will be limited when Nix is due for his big quarterback payday.
