Broadway to close overnight Tuesday for sign bridge installation

Construction crews will close Broadway in both directions overnight Tuesday as they install an overhead sign bridge near Interstate 25.

The closure, which will last from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 4 a.m. Wednesday, will impact Broadway between Ohio and Tennessee Avenues, according to a news release from the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI).

Drivers going northbound on Broadway will be able to access I-25 by traveling west on Mississippi Avenue to northbound Santa Fe Avenue, according to the release. Those going south on Broadway will be able to access the interstate as usual.

The sign bridge installation at Kentucky Avenue will be one of the final parts of DOTI’s travel and safety improvements in the area of Broadway and I-25.

The area is home to the Regional Transportation District’s I-25 / Broadway Station, the second-busiest station in the agency’s system with frequent bus and light rail connections between Englewood and downtown Denver, according to the project’s website. Other changes brought on by the project, which began in the summer of 2023, include:

• A new on-ramp to southbound I-25 from Broadway

• Extending Bannock Road south of Exposition Avenue, which provides Park-n-Ride access from the north

• Sanitary and storm sewer work

• New traffic signals at several interchanges

• Sidewalk reconstruction and bikeway extensions

The project is slated for completion by spring 2026
