Colorado Gives Day is here for annual online donation appeal

Today is the 15th year Coloradans get to show their generous spirit during Colorado Gives Day, a statewide online appeal to benefit more than 4,300 organizations.

Coming a week after the global Giving Tuesday, Colorado’s own version held on the second Tuesday of December since 2010 raised a record $54.8 million last year.

More than 94,000 donors contributed money to nearly 4,500 organizations to causes from human services to arts and education through the Colorado Gives Foundation, at ColoradoGives.org.

Also sponsored by FirstBank, the movement has raised more than half a billion dollars for local causes since its inception.

This year’s donation period opened Dec. 1, and, as of Tuesday morning, nearly $29 million has been raised from nearly 62,000 donors to 4,315 organizations.

The campaign ends at midnight on Tuesday.

Donors of $100 or more to a single nonprofit today will have a chance to win a Southwest Airlines voucher worth up to $400 in hourly drawings. Another winner will be randomly selected to receive a bonus ticket after midnight.

Every donation through Dec. 9 will be boosted by an incentive fund for further impact.

Last week’s Giving Tuesday on Dec. 2 raised a record $4 billion, with donations coming from 38.1 million Americans, the organization reported. Since being created in 2012, the worldwide online fundraising drive for all kinds of charities has raised $22.billion.
