Report claims this is the ‘best diner’ in Colorado – do you agree?
A recent report from food publication ChowHound sought to track down the ‘best diner’ in every American state.
“There’s something timeless and comforting about a great diner, whether it’s a neon-lit classic serving bottomless coffee or a modern twist on the greasy spoon,” wrote the publication. “Across the United States, diners capture the spirit of their communities, offering everything from legendary pancakes to regional specialties that keep locals and travelers coming back.”
Top picks were selected based on a range of criteria, including social media buzz, online reviews, and media recognition that various diners had received in the past, with editorial review to ensure that final picks were sound.
Without further ado, ChowHound’s pick for the ‘best diner’ in Colorado was Pete’s Kitchen, a spot driven by Greek roots that’s found in Denver.
With a 4.5-star rating on Google, this East Colfax Avenue establishment bills itself as “a comfortable diner serving classic American dishes with a twist on some Mexican and Greek favorites.” It’s part of a restaurant group headed by Pete Contos that’s got six various establishments around the city, including Pete’s Kitchen.
While Pete’s Restaurants group started in 1962, he took over the space for Pete’s Kitchen in 1988. Said to offer quick and affordable eats, a few of the most popular items are the breakfast burritos, the gyros plate, and the chicken fried steak.
Other restaurants included in Contos’ group include Satire Lounge, Gyros Place, University Park Cafe, Greek Town, and Central One.
