Two hospitalized after being attacked with hammer, knife at Loveland tanning salon
Two people were hospitalized after a man attacked them with a hammer and knife at a Loveland tanning salon Tuesday night.
Both victims required emergency medical treatment after Loveland Police Department investigators said Kyle Behrens, 20, entered Endless Summer Tanning located in the 1500 block of Madison Avenue around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Behrens, known to be a transient man who used to live around Longmont, faces several charges in connection with the incident, including attempted first-degree murder and attempted first-degree assault, according to a news release from LPD. First responders also gave him medical care after the incident.
Authorities believe that Behrens entered the business and immediately attacked a 21-year-old employee with a hammer, hitting her on the head and knocking her to the floor, according to the release. He then tried to barricade the front of the salon, which gave the victim a moment to run into a nearby room with a customer.
The victims closed the door to the room and someone called 911, but Behrens used the hammer to break through, drawing his knife and attacking the initial victim and the customer, according to the release. Police arrived less than three minutes after the 911 call.
“No one deserves to be the victim of this type of crime,” Loveland Assistant Chief Mike Trombley said in the release. “Sadly, trauma of this nature seldom fades quickly.”
If anyone was in the area during the time of the incident or has more information about Behrens, they are asked to contact the department’s investigative tip line at 970-962-2032 with case reference LP25-010422.
