The transformation of the Rockies’ coaching staff continued on Friday with another addition from a division rival.

Brett Pill has been named as the club’s major league hitting coach, joining the Rockies after six seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. The 41-year-old Pill most recently served as the Dodgers’ minor league hitting coordinator from 2023-25, following three seasons as a minor league hitting coach.

Pill is the second member affiliated with the 2025 World Series champion Dodgers to join the Rockies in recent days, following Josh Byrnes, Colorado’s new general manager, who came to Denver after spending the last 11 seasons as the Dodgers’ senior vice president of baseball operations.

Before his time with the Dodgers, Pill spent three seasons as an international scout for the Kia Tigers of the KBO.

That Korea connection could be a key point for the Rockies as the franchise continues to look for ways to locate talent from throughout the globe. During last week’s winter meetings in Orlando, Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta discussed the importance of players being available for the Rockies from all available avenues.

“I absolutely think it’s important,” DePodesta said when asked about having representatives scouting in Japan, Korea and other parts of Asia. “We have talked about the necessity for us to be active in every possible avenue to acquire talent.

“Whether it’s Latin America, whether it’s Asia, whether it’s the waiver wire, major league free agents, trades, all of it, I think we have to actively be involved in all those to try to find some potential solutions for us.”

Pill has big league experience as a player as well, suiting up for parts of three seasons with the San Francisco Giants, including 48 games during the Giants’ 2012 World Series championship season. He finished his playing career with Kia, slashing .316/.362/.521 over 367 games from 2014-16.

Since the offseason began, Colorado has hired DePodesta, Byrnes, four pitching coaches and Pill, each with ties to other MLB organizations. The Rockies also brought back Warren Schaeffer, who served as interim manager for Colorado in 2025 before being named as the full-time manager for 2026.
