Warm weather in Denver ties record set 104 years ago in 1921
According to the National Weather Service, Denver tied the daily record high for December 15 this week, reaching a temperature on Monday not felt on that date since 1921.
On December 15, 1921, the city reached 68 degrees Fahrenheit – a temperature that would not be felt again on that date for 104 years until December 15, 2025. The 68 degrees felt on Monday was 25 degrees higher than the long-term normal high for the date (43 degrees). Meanwhile, the record low for the date remains -19 degrees, set in 2008.
While no temperature of 80 degrees or higher has been recorded in December throughout the history of Denver, it’s gotten close. In 1939, a temperature of 79 degrees was reached in the Mile High City on December 5. The coldest it’s ever been during December in Denver was -25 on December 22, 1990.
Looking ahead, Weather.com says the Denver high temperature is between 60 degrees and 70 degrees through the end of the year with the exception of a 51-degree high on December 18 and a 58-degree high on December 27. This December is indeed shaping up to be one of the warmest the city has ever seen.
