Denver weather: Breezy in town, high wind warning in effect for western foothills
A high wind warning goes into effect at 11 a.m., Wednesday for most of the western suburbs and foothills of metro Denver, with gusts ranging from between 65-85 mph.
Denver residents can expect mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 69, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Breezy conditions will exist, with a south wind between 11 to 16 mph becoming west between 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph.
Tonight there’s a chance of rain showers mixing with snow after 10 p.m., then gradually ending. Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
A cold front associated with the wind event will cool off the city on Thursday with highs maybe reaching the low 50s, but a warm up begins Friday and a possible new record high could occur for Friday’s date of Dec. 19. The current high temperature record is 67 degrees set in 2023.
Continued above average temperatures are forecast for the weekend and several days heading into next week, Christmas week.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.
