Broncos’ new training facility ‘on budget and on schedule’ entering 2026

ENGLEWOOD — Broncos team president Damani Leech changed his driving route to work this week.

He marveled at the construction progress of a new training facility at Broncos Park.

“As I approach the training facility, I come in from the east side. Today, I came in from the west side,” Leech told The Denver Gazette in a Thursday phone interview. “I told Amy Dee, our head of construction: ‘Boy, you come in from that side, and you really get a different perspective on how far along the training facility has come, and just how beautiful it is.’ It’s great to see the progress.

“To see the stone and the glass all coming up — we can’t wait to get in there.”

The Broncos broke ground in August 2024 on a $175-million training facility that is scheduled for completion in May 2026. The proposed 205,000-square-foot building, located just west of their current facility, will include football and business operations on the top two floors. The first floor will optimize the player experience and reduce their foot travel between the locker room, weight room and meeting areas.

“I would say the most important thing that we update ownership on every weekend is that we continue to be on budget and on schedule,” Leech told The Denver Gazette. “What they’re focused on now is basically securing the entire exterior of the building. That’s where you see all the walls and glass going up. … As we get into the real cold months of January and February, you have an enclosed structure so that you can work on the interior.”

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph views the training facility’s progress as another sign of healthy ownership from the Walton-Penner family.

“That’s special,” Joseph said after Thursday’s practice at Broncos Park. “That speaks to our ownership. We don’t have any issues here. It’s the best job in football.”

The Broncos (12-2) host the Jaguars (10-4) on Sunday at Empower Field.

Nix improvement

Did quarterback Bo Nix play the best NFL game of his career last week in a 34-26 home win over the Packers?

“I thought it was close to it,” offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said Thursday after practice at Broncos Park. “Certainly, coming out of the game, I felt that way. He played really well (and) made plays when we needed them.”

Lombardi also said it was “one of the better games I’ve ever been a part of from a receiver room.” Courtland Sutton led the unit with seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Troy Franklin caught all six of his targets for 85 yards and a touchdown. Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Michael Bandy also found the end zone. Nix threw for 302 yards while completing 67% of his passes.

“I think his footwork has gotten a lot better (and) the way he handles himself in the pocket,” Lombardi said.

Opponent watch: WR Jakobi Meyers

The Jaguars and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers agreed to a three-year contract extension, according to NFL media reports on Thursday.

Jacksonville acquired Meyers just before the trade deadline from the Raiders. He instantly became a top receiving option for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Meyers, through just six Jaguars games, has 27 catches for 355 yards and three touchdowns.

“He’s made a huge difference. When you watch the early part of the season without Jakobi, it’s a good offense still, but he’s added a toughness (and) smarts,” Joseph said. “The quarterback (Lawrence) likes going to this receiver, and that’s something that they’ve worked out fairly quickly. He’s a blocker. We faced him twice a year for three years now, and he’s always been a good player.”

Briefly

Inside linebacker Alex Singleton has been named the team’s 2025 Ed Block Courage Award winner, the Broncos announced Thursday. The award “honors players who exemplify commitment to the principles of sportsmanship” as selected by teammates for “exceptional courage, great character and inspiring effort,” according to a news release. Singleton had successful cancer surgery earlier this season. … Rookie Jeremy Crawshaw, a native Australian, leads the fan voting among punters for the Pro Bowl. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi said: “The country of Australia is probably representing, as well as our fans.” … Two Jacksonville players did not practice on Thursday due to injuries: DE Danny Striggow (ankle) and RB Bhayshul Tuten (finger).
