Wind gusts down hundreds of trees in northwest Colorado

The recent winds that swept across Colorado have downed hundreds of trees in northwest Colorado, blocking trails and winter snow roads.

According to reporting from Steamboat Radio, the winds have downed hundreds of trees along winter snow roads between Dry Lake, Buffalo Pass, Rabbit Ears Pass, and the Summit Lake areas. Routt County Search and Rescue also reported that some trails are blocked by downed trees. The Lane of Pain halfway to the towers on Emerald Mountain was affected as well, with trees blown across the trail.

However, crews from agencies including Routt County Search and Rescue, US Forest Service, Powder Cats, and Routt County Powder Riders are working on starting to clear the downfall this weekend, according to Steamboat Radio.

RCSAR also said that snow conditions are challenging right now, with low snowfall and warm weather creating an ice crust, and that “any snow that was still soft got blown to WY.”
